

History:
Right next to your accommodation at the heart of Auerstedt, can you find
evidence of the battle of 1806 between French troops under Napoleon and
the Prussian Army. Might that be at the local museum
that used to be the Prussian headquarters, or when hiking along the Napoleon-trail
towards the castle “Eckartsburg” (4 km), you can experience
history directly.
Other destinations include the “Sonnenburg” (5 km) in
the wineries above Bad Sulza,
the castle “Rudelsburg”
(9 km) high above the river “Saale”, the former monastery of Schulpforte
(20 km),
the castle “Neuenburg” in Freiburg or the castle
of Dornburg (20 km) where famous poet Goethe spend his last years
are all places with a rich history and their own flair.
Weimar (25 km) is not only the city of poets , composers and philosophers like Goethe, Schiller, Wieland, Liszt, Nitzsche and many mores, it also was Cultural Capital of Europe in 1999 with a variety of museums, cultural performances and points of interest.
Experience the exploration site of Nebra where a 3.8 km trail leads you
along excavations of a 3600 year old site where also the famous
Nebra Sky Disc, an elaborate representation of the stone age
night sky,
was found in 1999.
During bad weather, the Museum of History in Weimar or the original size re-construction of a <br />medivial stone catapult in Weissensee offer you sheltered opportunities to learn more about the area’s history.
